The Staatliches Museum Schwerin / Ludwigslust / Güstrow – Art Collections, Castles and Gardens is the art historical memory of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The collection reflects the one thousand years of history of the state. Owing to the stock, which can only be compared to the largest national collections in Germany, the Staatliches Museum Schwerin is the foundation of the cultural identity of today’s Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
The responsibility that comes with this great significance forms the basis of our work. Every year the Staatliches Museum Schwerin welcomes over 300 000 visitors to its collections and exhibitions, who show their interest not only in the art and culture of the state, but also in the high economic importance of art.
Along with the Baltic Sea and the landscape, art and culture have become part of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomeranian trade mark. Art and culture make up a sector that can no longer get by without tourism marketing. For this reason, the Staatliches Museum Schwerin is an economic factor and an exemplar whose further organised development is in the best economic interests of the state.
The Staatliches Museum Schwerin / Ludwigslust / Güstrow – Art Collections, Castles and Gardens comprise the Gallery of Old & New Masters in Schwerin and the former ducal residences of the Mecklenburg dynasty in Schwerin, Güstrow and Ludwigslust.
